A Story of Hope: Abu Taher Salin
Meet Abu Taher Salin, a bright and determined young boy born on December 18, 2010, in Shikaritola, Ati Bazar, Keraniganj, Dhaka. Salin is the second of three siblings, with an elder brother and a younger sister. His father, Md. Salam Mia, works at a shoe shop, while his mother, Nasima Akter, cares for the family at home.
Salin began his education at Banglahelp Light School, Keraniganj, in 2019, and he continues to study there in the third grade. Banglahelp Light School is the first school of his life—and a place that has brought remarkable transformation. Born with a disability affecting his legs and with speech difficulties, Salin has faced significant challenges from the very start. His condition is believed to be linked to complications during his mother’s pregnancy, caused by epilepsy medication.
Despite these obstacles, Salin’s passion for learning is unwavering. He used to be entirely dependent on his parents for movement—his mother or father would carry him to and from school every day. But today, thanks to the gift of a walker, Salin makes the journey on his own. He is growing in independence: he can now bathe, eat, and use the toilet without help. He even plays with friends, enjoys his classes, and fully participates in school life.
Salin’s favorite color is red, and he loves football, although he can not play he enjoys watching his friends play. He dreams of becoming a doctor one day so he can serve the poor and help others in need.
Salin’s progress has brought immense joy to his family. They are deeply thankful to the school for welcoming their son with love, dignity, and support. His parents especially appreciate the teachers for the extra care they provide every day.
Salin’s story is a powerful reminder of the difference compassion and opportunity can make. Thank you for being part of this journey.
